WHAT DOES THE ACUPUNCTURE ALLIANCE DO?
Although it would be impossible to list all
the functions of the Acupuncture Alliance, the following illustrates
several facets of the work of the organization:
The Acupuncture Alliance:
- maintains an active patient referral service
via fax, phone and world wide web that has been cited in hundreds
of resources ranging from Andrew Weils newsletter and Harvard
Health Letter to USA Today, Shape Magazine, New Woman Magazine
and Natural Health;
- is actively supporting acupuncture at a federal
level, including the Federal Acupuncture Coverage Act and inclusion
in the Access to Medical Treatment Act;
- is working with 11 states to pass new acupuncture
legislation;
- represents the profession at national and
international forums such as the doctoral meetings and the NAFTA
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Commission;
- provides information regarding the benefits
of acupuncture and Oriental medicine to countless media sources
each year including McCalls, Vogue, NBC, Vegi Life, Consumers
Digest, The Washingtonian, Glamour and Microsoft Encarta;
- provides an annual conference with outstanding
policy discussions, continuing education workshops and consumer
programs;
- has brought issues such as OSHA and endangered
species to the attention of the profession;
- works with HMOs, third party payers, hospitals
and rehabilitation clinics to include acupuncture and Oriental
medicine in their plans.
